Seit nunmehr fast 40 Jahren trägt der Partnerschaftsclub Pulheim-Fareham e.V. gemeinsam mit der Fareham- Pulheim Twinning Association mit großem Engagement dazu bei, dass die Freundschaft zwischen den beiden Städten lebendig ist und bleibt. Dafür danke ich allen Beteiligten auch im Namen von Rat und Verwaltung.

Bereits im Jahr 1983 beschlossen sowohl der Rat der Stadt Pulheim als auch der Rat der südenglischen Stadt die Gründung der Städtepartnerschaft. Im März 1984 folgte dann die Unterzeichnung der Partnerschaftsurkunde. Seither hat es regelmäßige Besuche aus Politik und Verwaltung gegeben, bei denen Themen wie Verkehr oder Stadtplanung eine Rolle gespielt haben.

Der Kern einer solchen Partnerschaft besteht jedoch darin, dass die Menschen aus beiden Städten sich treffen und im besten Fall sogar Freundschaften schließen. Seit 1985 sorgt der Partnerschaftsclub Pulheim-Fareham genau dafür: Immer wieder werden Besuche organisiert, und die persönlichen Begegnungen führen zu einem besseren Verständnis füreinander.

Während der Coronapandemie sind einige Kontakte, die es zwischen Vereinen und Institutionen gegeben hat, leider abgebrochen. Ich bin mir jedoch sicher, dass sich die Mitglieder des Partnerschaftsclubs sich weiter intensiv einbringen werden, damit die Freundschaft unserer beiden Städte weiterhin Bestand hat und wächst.

Mayor of Fareham:

Fareham is a market town which lies between the cities of Southampton and Portsmouth in south-east Hampshire.  Fareham is similar to Pulheim in many ways, not least in that it is one large town surrounded by the smaller villages of Funtley, Portchester, Stubbington, Titchfield and Warsash.   The town centre combines a High Street made up of characterful, historical buildings and a modern pedestrianised central shopping area. The association was originally suggested in 1983 when a former Fareham resident returned from Coventry’s twin town and said that Pulheim was looking for a twin town of similar size and character and that Fareham would be an ideal “twin.” Exploratory visits were arranged, and the Fareham-Pulheim Twinning Association was formed.  Formal twinning arrangements began in March 1984 with an exchange of charters. There has been continuing social, sporting, cultural and business exchanges between the towns. In 1998 Pulheim was granted the ceremonial freedom of the Borough of Fareham in recognition of the strong links between the towns.

We strongly believe that improving our links can only be beneficial to both towns.  Over the years our club members have visited Pulheim and have been entertained by the Partnershaft club with visits to many places of interest around the Pulheim area.  These exchanges have been enjoyed by many of our residents. We have also entertained many residents from Pulheim through the Partnershaft club.    As Fareham is located on the south coast, we have been able to take our visitors to such places as the New Forest, the Isle of Wight and boat cruises on the Solent.  Many have visited the Portsmouth Dockyard and London is reached with a ninety-minute train journey.   These are just a few of the places and attractions, there are many others of interest.
